To some, a guitar is a precious specimen to be kept behind velvet ropes, in a glass cabinet. To the more industrious soul, it’s simply a sturdy implement for extracting melodies from thin air.

But above all else, a guitar is a thing of action—an object to be grasped, wrestled with, enjoyed, and, dare I say, loved.

My own peculiar mission involves scouting Asia Pacific for quality, affordable solid-body electrics. Often they’re instruments of great untapped promise, which I proceed to tinker with until they’re as good as—and frequently superior to—the day they were born.

 

I also build custom guitars to exacting vintage specs, and I generally obsess over strings and setups with a level of detail that would make a watchmaker blush.
